A Word From The President

Dear Members,

Wow, what a busy last few weeks it has been both on and off the course!

Beyond our usual full schedule of competition and corporate days on the course, we have held the XXXX Gold Team Challenge, the NT Classic Championships, and of course our Airnorth Men’s and Women’s Club Championships. We have two first time champions, who kept it in the family with Nicholas Bierman crowned our men’s and mum Sharron Bierman our women’s champion. Congratulations to both, as well as B Grade winners Myles McIntosh and Karen Markos, and Chris Hogan and Nerissa Calkin who were successful in C Grade.

With the great dry season weather we are enjoying, it was great to see the arrival of the first of our new outdoor furniture last week, and even better to see members straight into making the most of it over the weekend. The festoon lighting is well underway and will be completed in coming days and the outdoor bar access will be open on our busy days for member’s convenience.

Regarding course works, the new cart paths on the 16th and 1st holes are starting to grow back in, and the sand bin and ball washer on 16 will be relocated this week. Other works starting this week will include removal of the brick retaining wall on the right side of the 16th tee, replacing it with a grass batter that incorporates improving the drainage in the area and rehabilitation of the bare areas previously worn by carts in the area.  The small retaining wall on the right-hand side of the men’s 1st tee will be replaced with a gentle grass batter. Works will also commence to establish a new path for the 17th tee that will flow through the area between the blue/white and the red teeing ground. Whilst improving the aesthetics of the hole, this will also reduce the risk of stray balls from the 16th affecting players waiting to tee off on 17. The existing cart access will be rehabilitated including tree planting following arborist advice.

On my favourite topic of carts, we have now reviewed our existing cart policy and established separate policies for DGC hire carts and member-owned personal carts. Both will be uploaded to the club website in the next day or two, available from the office or pro shop, and members with registered carts will also be emailed a copy of the appropriate document for their convenience.  In summary, there are not substantial changes to the policy for either club or member-owned carts, both policies have been simplified and also give some clarity about who can and cannot drive carts, and important information on the difference between driving within the club property and in adjacent public areas including roads.

Todd and our ground maintenance team have the course looking and playing great now, and with new flag sticks and tee markers if you haven’t been out for a hit for a while its definitely time to dust off the clubs and enjoy their efforts in the great Darwin weather.

Best of luck to all playing in the upcoming Darwin Open and all the best for the month ahead, I look forward to seeing you around the club.

General Manager's Report

We’re thrilled to share that June was a fantastic month at the Club, with strong attendance across both golf and social activities. Member support continues to be outstanding—our happy hour has been especially popular, and the dining room has been buzzing.

We're also excited to announce the launch of our new menu, featuring fresh additions we think you'll love. We hope you’ll stop by soon to try it out!

As a friendly reminder, membership fees are now due. The final date to renew is 31st July 2025. Please note that any memberships not renewed by this date will be considered unfinancial. If you are resigning your membership, please advise us also.

If you have any questions or require assistance with the renewal process, don't hesitate to contact the Club—we’re here to help. Bag tags and cart stickers are now available from Nini in our head office, please pop in and collect yours.

Our corporate golf day season is back, and June saw several fantastic events take place—most notably the Spoke to a Bloke Charity Golf Day.

We're proud to share that the event was a tremendous success, raising over $15,000 for a great cause. The Club and bistro also enjoyed a strong day of trade, but most importantly, everyone who attended had a great time on and off the course.

Given the overwhelming support and positive feedback, we’re excited to announce that we plan to make this an annual event on our golfing calendar.

The new Heart Grant Automated External Defibrillator (AED) kit has been installed and is ready to save lives.

You’ll find it at the green keepers shed next to the tee block on hole 8 and 15, positioned to make sure help is close by if it’s ever needed. It’s there to keep golfers safe, and to look after the grounds staff and anyone else out on the course. A big thank you to St John’s for all there help with this project.

For more details on the 2 locations of our AED kit’s please click on the link below: DGC-Emergency-Vehicle-Attendance-Plan-2025-1.pdf

Please make sure you are regularly checking in with our social media on Facebook or Instagram to keep up to date with all the latest news, specials and events happening at the club.

Best wishes and happy golfing

Hi Members,

This month has seen the club championships played with the course in excellent condition. I would like to thank Tod and the PT team for the way the course was presented and how it played.

I understand some of the frustration with the wet patches around the course. The PT team is working on fine tuning the irrigation system and we should see some changes over the coming weeks.

The Vets have continued with the top dressing of the irrigation laterals. I would like to thank Dave Southwell and the Vets for their outstanding work in tidying up the bunkers and removing the stones from them. Also, addressing the bare patches around the course is making a significant difference in the overall appearance and playability.

You will notice that the flag sticks, cups and tee markers have been replaced and look great. There is also an additional sand bin on the practice fairway and new smaller sand bins on the 5th & 11th tees.

Lastly could I ask that all members remember to fill in their divots, repair their pitch marks on the greens and rake the bunkers once you have played out of them. A little bit of etiquette goes a long way and makes the course more enjoyable for everyone.

This month has seen the completion of the cart paths on the 16th and from the 1st tee to the fairway which look great.

The course is looking good. The greens have been verti cut and sanded and we are starting to see the benefit of that now.

If you have any questions or concerns about the course, feel free to send me an email and I will respond in due course.

Club Championships

The 2025 Club Championship event turned out to be a family affair with Nicholas Bierman taking out the Mens’ Championship title and his mother Sharon Bierman winning the trophy as Women’s Champion. Nett winners were John Robins and Karen Markos. Senior awards were taken out by stalwart John Robins and Sharon Bierman. Jacob Rawlings was the Junior Champion for 2025. Jacob gets a special mention for demonstrating great fitness and passion for his sport in that he competed in simultaneous competitions on the first weekend of the Championships. He played 36 holes each day in that he played 18 at Dawin GC in the Championships and then played 18 at RAAF GC to compete in their Open. He achieved runner up in the RAAF Open and third overall in our Club Championships.

Reminder that Club Championships has a post - competition with our CC MATCHPLAY.

The top 8 Gross winners in A B and C grade play off for the title of graded Matchplay Champion on the weekend of 9th & 10th August. The Final Matchplay will occur 17 August. Prizes for Club Championships are awarded on Presentation Night in October.

NT CLASSIC

This Golf Australia annual event was completed over the weekend. It was great to see both local and visiting players compete. Of special mention is the number of Junior players who registered.

Congratulations to Mal Roney (Katherine GC) as Men’s Overall winner and to our returning Darwin member, Summer Dellow (Burleigh GC/ Darwin GC) who took out the Women’s Trophy. Summer and our local junior, Sophie Minchinton, won NT Classic Foursomes along with our DGC member reps Steve Bailey and Simon Rogers who took out the Mens Foursomes title!

Entries close 22 July. Cost $110

LOCAL RULES UPDATE

Match Committee do a monthly review of the Local Rules. It always pays to check this Menu item on your MiScore app.

New: inclusion of another free relief opp under Rule 16.1.

You may have seen two recent artificial covers appear on Hole 14 (one RH side Green and the other RH side of fairway by the 200m marker) PAWA unearthed inspection pits recently and our GM has placed a plywood cover with artificial turf attached over the cavity as a safety consideration.

Thanks to our Greenkeeping team for the continued assistance in marking GUR and to our Match Committee member Tom Harold for repainting our Penalty area markers on 8th & 15th.

Hope this continued Dry Season weather brings out the best in your game. Enjoy the run….
