Congratulations to all the winners who were acknowledged at
the end of season presentation night on Saturday October 25. It was great to
see an increase in numbers present as the Match Committee continue to offer an alternative, more casual celebration than traditionally
staged. We have received positive feedback about the new trophy display cabinet in the members bar which now allows us to showcase
our perpetual trophies.
As such we now ask
our winners to return their trophies so that they can be displayed. There is
additional work planned for the areas adjacent to the trophies with some
historical pieces to be displayed. The Closing Ambrose's were
successful events with the Men competing on Saturday for the first time. It saw
an increase in participation to 35 teams this year and congratulations to Tim Mackenzie, David Oliver, Ted Bartlett,
Col Chesworth, Lee Doyle and Stuart Johnstone who won with a nett score of
50.5. An alternative format was adopted in the women's Closing
Ambrose to encourage participation and was well received with 20 teams
competing. In an astonishing turn, the Women's Captain, our very own Michele
Cody participated in a team event with enthusiasm and lead both the Gross and
Nett scores with a team that included Amy Griesbach, Sophie Minchinton and
Summer Dellow. A strong season by our external
pennants team has the Frillies competing for the pennant in the final this
weekend at DGC. The Men's external team travelled to Jabiru over the weekend
and won both days, propelling the team into the semifinals which will be played this weekend at Humpty Doo. Good luck to all competitors. A strong season by our external pennants teams saw the Frillies defeat Palmerston in the Women's Grand Final on 15 November. DGC was the venue and Golf NT were on site to co-ordinate the event and Presentation. It was a thrilling finale with teams drawn at 3 All. Referee, Peter Wright advised that a Playoff between the two No 1 players was warranted. 13 year old Junior, Sophie Minchinton , embraced the challenge and won the decider after 5 nail-biting holes! The 2025 Pennant now sits in our Trophy cabinet!
The Men's external team spent the final couple of weekends rural, (Jabiru and Humpty Doo) playing for finals contention. Alas, they just missed out making it to the Grand Final despite some close scoring games. We managed to get in two of the opening rounds of our Internal Pennants competition before cyclone Fina caused a wash out. As per our terms of play, round three will be played 7th of February. A reminder that the
Internal Pennants competition was established by members who saw an opportunity
to conduct a social competition during the build-up and wet season and
encourage participation during months that were otherwise considered quiet. By
all means be competitive, but remember to have fun and enjoy the day. Leighton Schultz Men's Captain Michele Cody Women's Captain Darwin Golf Club |
