A Word From The President

Dear Members,

Quite an ‘exciting’ month is now behind us, and I hope everyone has come through cyclone Fina safely and relatively unscathed. As most of you will have seen, our course fared reasonably well in terms of major damage, however what was largely unseen was the massive amount of small debris spread across greens, fairways and in bunkers. A huge thank you to Tod’s course maintenance team, who were joined by Pro Shop and Clubhouse staff, as well as members who volunteered their time, to clean the course up, ready for mowing and the resumption of golf. This week we have professional tree removalists in to clear the stockpiles of trees with a woodchipper and other machinery to support. Please give way to them in the same way we do to our own ground staff so that they can operate safely, finish and our course be returned to normal.

New shade shelters for golfers waiting on the 7th and 16th tees have now been installed adjacent the existing cart paths. Whilst the structures themselves have been completed, the widening of the paths to provide concrete pads around them will be installed after the wet season.

Next Monday evening, December 8th at 6:00pm will see the Annual General Meeting held for 2025. The holding of an AGM is a legal requirement and a quorum, made up of at least 5% of our voting members, must attend for the meeting to be valid. In a practical sense, the AGM offers members a great opportunity to gain maximum insight into the state of the Club and have a say in the members that are chosen to run it. I urge any members that can attend to do so and stay afterwards for some refreshments provided by Brett, our General Manager.

Finally, many members will soon be heading off on Christmas holidays with their families, and the coming weeks will see various Christmas parties for members and groups within our club, so I would like to take the opportunity to wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas and holiday season and hope that you wake up to that new driver that hits it ‘just a little straighter and further’ on Christmas morning!

I look forward to seeing you at the AGM and around the Club.

General Manager's Update

We had a great turn out to our Melbourne Cup luncheon with close to 100 people in attendance, thanks to all the ladies and a few men for dressing up for the occasion. A big thank you to Greg Vincent and the team at territory FM for helping make the day run seamlessly. The sweeps were a huge success as usual, with Celina and the House & Social Committee putting this all together so well.

Please be reminded that the Annual General Meeting is being held on the 8th December 2025 at 6pm in the main dining room of the clubhouse. If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

A massive thank you to everyone who helped with the cleanup of the golf course and clubhouse after Cyclone Fina, it was a huge effort! It’s great to see everyone back out on course enjoying there golf.

Please make sure you are regularly checking in with our social media on Facebook or Instagram to keep up to date with all the latest news, specials and events happening at the Club.

Best wishes and happy golfing

Hi Members,

The course continues to play well, as reflected in recent scores.

Tod and his team have begun shaping and narrowing the fairways, and we’re starting to see the results as the grass responds to the recent rain. You’ll also notice clearer definition between the fairways, the first cut of rough, and the second cut.

The greens were renovated earlier this month and have recovered nicely thanks to the rain and the efforts of the PT team.

The lightning protection for the irrigation system has now been signed off by the third-party contractor, which is the final step toward full system approval.

A few friendly reminders for all members and players:

· Greens staff have right of way. Please wait until you’re called through if you see staff ahead.

· We’ve received photos of carts parked or driven in the wrong areas. With the wet season upon us, please stick to cart paths where possible. If you must leave the path, keep at least 5 meters from tees and 10 meters from greens.

· Please fill divots, repair pitch marks, and rake bunkers after use. A little course etiquette goes a long way toward keeping the experience enjoyable for everyone.

If you have any questions or concerns about the course, feel free to reach out to me.

Happy golfing,

Congratulations to all the winners who were acknowledged at the end of season presentation night on Saturday October 25. It was great to see an increase in numbers present as the Match Committee continue to offer an alternative, more casual celebration than traditionally staged. We have received positive feedback about the new trophy display cabinet in the members bar which now allows us to showcase our perpetual trophies.  As such we now ask our winners to return their trophies so that they can be displayed. There is additional work planned for the areas adjacent to the trophies with some historical pieces to be displayed.

The Closing Ambrose's were successful events with the Men competing on Saturday for the first time. It saw an increase in participation to 35 teams this year and congratulations to Tim Mackenzie, David Oliver, Ted Bartlett, Col Chesworth, Lee Doyle and Stuart Johnstone who won with a nett score of 50.5. An alternative format was adopted in the women's Closing Ambrose to encourage participation and was well received with 20 teams competing. In an astonishing turn, the Women's Captain, our very own Michele Cody participated in a team event with enthusiasm and lead both the Gross and Nett scores with a team that included Amy Griesbach, Sophie Minchinton and Summer Dellow.

A strong season by our external pennants team has the Frillies competing for the pennant in the final this weekend at DGC. The Men's external team travelled to Jabiru over the weekend and won both days, propelling the team into the semifinals which will be played this weekend at Humpty Doo. Good luck to all competitors.

A strong season by our external pennants teams saw the Frillies defeat Palmerston in the Women's Grand Final on 15 November. DGC was the venue and Golf NT were on site to co-ordinate  the event and Presentation.  It was a thrilling finale with teams drawn at 3 All.  Referee, Peter Wright advised that a Playoff between the two No 1 players was warranted.  13 year old Junior, Sophie Minchinton , embraced the challenge and won the decider after 5 nail-biting holes!  The 2025 Pennant now sits in our Trophy cabinet!

The Men's external team spent the final couple of weekends rural, (Jabiru and Humpty Doo)  playing for finals contention. Alas, they just missed out making it to the Grand Final despite some close scoring games.

We managed to get in two of the opening rounds  of our Internal Pennants competition before cyclone Fina caused a wash out. As per our terms of play, round three will be played 7th of February. A reminder that the Internal Pennants competition was established by members who saw an opportunity to conduct a social competition during the build-up and wet season and encourage participation during months that were otherwise considered quiet. By all means be competitive, but remember to have fun and enjoy the day.
