A Word From The President

Dear Members,

I hope everyone has been enjoying the reasonably temperate wet season, if the number of competition entries is any indication it would seem so!

As is the case at this time of year, some aspects of course maintenance, particularly mowing and spraying, has been challenging for the green keeping team. Not withstanding this, Director of Greens, Simon Rogers, General Manager, Brett Lubicz, and myself met with the Turnpoint management team last week to reinforce the importance of weed control on the course, and ensure that Tod is getting their support as necessary as we head towards the dry season.

In other green's matters, the fast-growing rough has provided the opportunity to do some fairway reshaping, which will be reviewed in the next few weeks to ensure it caters for all levels of golfers. During wet days we have advised the maintenance team to focus on course 'house keeping' including weeding bunkers, filling path pot holes, clearing drains, cleaning around sprinkler heads etc.

Whilst the proposed constitution has been completed and was planned for issue late last year, it goes hand in hand with the club's regulations. The proposed regulations are now being completed and both documents will be circulated to members in the next few weeks for comment.
The preliminary Master Plan, drafted by Mode Design, will be displayed in the Club and issued to members in the next week or two. This is a high-level document based on member input during workshops last year. The Board intends to push on rapidly with the identification, refinement and planning of aspects of the development of the Club's facilities, following on from this document. The process going forward will be guided by an 'Infrastructure and Facilities Advisory Committee' made up of appropriately experienced members to advise the Board.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Brett Kruger to the Board as Men's Captain, I am sure his continued contribution to the Match Committee and also the development of the club as a whole will be invaluable.

I look forward to seeing you around the Club.

General Manager's Update

Since our previous newsletter, many of you have been battling your way through a tricky wet season to get out on course, I commend you for your commitment and determination. Friday nights have been very busy of late at the clubhouse, lots of families utilising the playground area and fantastic to see a lot of members here for the badge draw, which was won recently by a very happy Ima Core! It was also great to see strong turnouts for both our golfing events this year, with New Years Day and Australia Day each selling out.

A little bit of housekeeping from me, I kindly ask that all members and their guests treat our staff with the same warmth and respect that they show in return. Our clubhouse is a place for everyone to feel welcome, relaxed, and looked after, and creating that positive atmosphere is something we all share together.

Please make sure you are regularly checking in with our social media on Facebook or Instagram to keep up to date with all the latest news, specials and events happening at the Club.

Best wishes and happy golfing,

Brett Lubicz

General Manager

Wet weather seems to have dominated recent golfing events.

Our Internal Pennants weekends have suffered with several washouts and our Australia Day Ambrose saw an interrupted day of play.

Countless competitions have seen players record NSA (No Score Approved) on their scorecard as they have not completed their round due to the wet conditions.

Prize allocation for 18 hole competitions occurs when 12 or more players complete the round. The number of players in a competition during the Wet Season also impacts whether the Pro Shop upload the results as ungraded or A & B Division and whether the Pro Pin prize is attributed. i.e. If only 12 players in comp paying $12 pp, it is not economically viable for Club to be paying out $125 for NTP Pro Pin as well as $80 for the Winner. Nice if you are one of the lucky 12, but poor form for our Financials!

Wet Weather caused our Internal Pennants to bring the washout rule into play by utilising the first weekend in February as the make up fixture for Round 3 to be played. Our golf program only allows room for one rescheduling. Grand Final is the exception. Match Committee will determine a potential date for a replay by the two finalists if there is a washout.

ABNORMAL COURSE CONDITION: Temporary Water on Putting Green R & A Rule 16.1a

R & A Rule 16.1a

When a ball is on the putting green and there is interference by abnormal course condition (temporary water) , free relief may be taken by placing a ball on the nearest point of complete relief.

This includes if the abnormal course condition is in your line of play while ball on putting green.

In coming months these juniors have been selected from the Junior Emerging Talent (J.E.T.) group by Golf NT to represent NT/ACT combined Territory Team at the 2026 Junior Interstate team Matchplay event to be held at Moonah Links Resort in Victoria.

Kurt Watts will be accompanying as the Team coach.

They will also participate in the prestigious Australian Junior Amateur Championships at Ballarat GC in April.

Our Juniors appreciate that this is a great opportunity for their ongoing development and performance. Mixing it with the best affords them a great learning opportunity.

DGC has a growing number of Junior members who are thriving under the stewardship of our PGA Certified Golf Professionals, Kurt Watts and Bec West.

A number of development clinics are conducted weekly to cater for both the Beginner golfer and the Higher Performance player.

Darwin Golf Club was successful for its fifth year in acquiring a grant from the Australian Golf Foundation to offer a golfing scholarship to junior girls. Bec West facilitates this coaching program and this year 14 girls will develop the skills of golf and enjoy the connectivity of the game.
